What’s the Easiest Way to Copy a Hex Color from Anywhere on Your Screen?

Use a color picker utility like Supercharge to instantly copy any color on your screen, then paste the hex code into a lightweight app like Antinote (the note APP of my dreams). With Antinote’s autopaste mode, the hex code is saved the moment you click. Instantly there.

Today, a quick video to see this in action.

Today’s Mac app tip is surprisingly simple - yet it feels a bit like magic. It’s one of those things that, once you know, you can’t un-know.

Let’s take a look. ♡

Step by Step Video

Notes to Go with the Video Above.

Here’s what I do when I find the perfect background color while working on a Squarespace website design (or pulling a palette from a photo in Lightroom, or a favourite color for a graphic.)

I hit Command + 3 - that’s my shortcut for turning my cursor into a color picker powered by an APP called Supercharge.
I click on the color - and Supercharge automatically copies the hex code to my clipboard.

Combine that with my favourite Note APP, Antinote and you’re welcome. ♡

Anything copied to my clipboard auto-magically lands in Antinote.

What is Antinote?

A clean, minimalist app that you can pin to the top of your screen. (more on it HERE). Wherever your mouse is, Antinote is waiting - ready to capture whatever you copy. Notes, text snippets, color hex codes from Supercharge…. and more.

Wanna turn on auto-paste in antinote?

  • Hit /

  • Tap 6 to enter paste mode

  • Press Return

  • You’ll see the autopaste icon flash - and that’s it

Now anything you copy (like Command + 3 color picks) drops right in.

Why I use Supercharge

It lives in my menu bar and does many helpful things:

  • Instantly pick colors from anywhere on screen

  • Customize shortcuts like my Command + 3 color picker

  • See photo metadata (right from Finder) - like dimensions, size, or file path

  • Right-click to airdrop files directly to your iPhone

and so many other helpful things.

Where to get these tools

Both Antinote and Supercharge are included in a subscription I love: Setapp. (this is my partner link)

Setapp is a bit like a curated app drawer - you pay one monthly fee and get access to SO MANY Mac Apps/utilities.

(I’m barely scratching the surface with these two.)

Other favorites inside Setapp:

☐ CleanMyMac

☐ Bartender (to organize your menu bar)

☐ QuitAll

☐ And more I’ll share soon.

Try it for yourself

If you want to grab colors straight from your screen (with ease) try this setup:

  • Download Supercharge via Setapp. My link takes you too a free 7 day trial.

  • Set your shortcut (mine’s Command + 3) Install Antinote (also on Setapp)

  • Turn on autopaste mode (/, then 6, then Return)

  • Keep it open while you work

Let me know if you try it. And if you’d like more tips like this - small utilities that make creative work feel good - I’d love to share more.

Note: This post pairs with the video above - scroll up to watch this in action.

Summary

To copy any hex color from your screen, use Supercharge (Command + 3) to pick the color and Antinote to autopaste it - no extra steps needed.
