My External Hard Drive Failed

with my 2016 to 2019 photo library on it.

Awhile back I needed a few photos from my trip to Greece in 2018.
I plugged in my 2016-2019 photo library EHD and discovered it was DEAD.

Why it died? I do not know.
It's a thing. especially with spinning hard drives.
(And the very reason I'm transitioning to SSD’s for all my photos.
This being my fav.)

But Kim, didn’t you have a time machine backup of your EHD?

At one time. Yes!
I do set time machine to back up all of my EHD’s.
However, I’d unplugged this particular drive to make room for a new SSD.
And as time machine fills it replaces older backups to make room for new ones.
So by the time I realized my drive was dead the time machine backup that included my 2016-2019 photo library EHD was long gone.

Thankfully, I had a backup plan in place.
