Making Friends with Creativity Continued

Day 21 of 31 Days of Blogging / The Stories We Tell

We wake up, sit, stand, walk around, lay down.
All the while stories running round and round in our brains.

Some serve us. Others not so much.

In regards to creativity. What story do you tell?

I’ve always been creative.
I’m just not that creative.
Creativity is a part of me, it always has been.
Photography saved me.

I’m stuck. I don’t know why?
I’m in a slump.
I can’t seem to create anything worthwhile.
What’s the point?

I’m just not as good as insert a name.
I wish I was more creative.
I never have time to create.
I need a better space.
I need more uninterrupted time.

My creative story goes something like this.

I can’t NOT create. I create every day. I’m super creative.
Creativity is my life.

These are just sentences I’ve thought over and over ‘til they became a part of who I am.

Thoughts are sneaky.

If you think …. I’m stuck, then think it again…then again and again…
Your brain will go looking for evidence to prove you’re right.

I’m stuck is a common one for so many creatives in our world.

STICK:
verb // past tense: STUCK;
unable to move from a particular position or place, or unable to change a situation.

What if questioned ‘I’m stuck?’

(or whatever thought not serving you well).

Is that true? Am I really unable to move or change this ‘stuck situation’?

Think of something that you believe no matter what.

‘I’m an amazing Mom. My kids can always count on me.’
Consider the thoughts that support the amazing Mom you are. You might not think about it at all.
It’s just WHO YOU ARE.
(that’s the sweet spot)

I’m guessing it’d be quite rare that you’d think/say then repeat over and over in your mind.
I’m stuck. I don’t know how to be a mom. I can’t seem to do it anymore.

Interesting to consider, isn’t it?

But imagine if those sentences started spinning round in your head. How might they play out in your relationship with your kids?

And so it goes with the I’m stuck trap.

Now let’s bring it back to yesterday’s considering your creativity as a good friend post

We’ve all had friendship troubles. I said, she said… that ends up in a fight.

The only way to sort it out is if someone takes the first step.

So if creativity is a good friend and you’re not on the best terms.

It’s up to YOU to take that first step.

One simple action today, another tomorrow, the next, the next and so on.

And as you take that one-step (and the next), be sure to make a little space for better thoughts.

Like…

I’m getting to know my creativity again. I’ve missed her.
I’m making time for creativity.
and
so on.

Who knows what might come next.

Whatcha think?
Please feel free to share in the comments below. I LOVE hearing from you.

With Love. You’ve got this.
